CW2(R) Danny J. Roese 84 of South Bloomfield, OH, passed away Friday, March 29th, 2024 surrounded by his family.  He was born on July 12, 1939, to the late Jarold Raymond and Bessie Mae (Maupin) Roese of Millport.  He was a graduate of Ashville-Harrison H.S. Class of 1957.  Danny went into the U.S. Army in 1956. He served 17 years of active duty and 16 years of reserve duty. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. His first as a Communication Specialist with the 5th Special Forces Group where he was awarded the Bronze Star w/Valor and the Combat Infantry Badge. His second with the 123rd Aviation Battalion Group as a Cobra Attack Helicopter Pilot. During this tour he was shot down and received the Purple Heart Award. Danny received the Air Medal and Air Medal w/Valor for valorous actions in the Republic of Vietnam and numerous other awards and commendations.  He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 on July 12, 1999.  In 2007 he was inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame as one of Ohio’s Hero’s for his Bronze Star with Valor. After his service to his country, he worked for many years and retired with the U.S. Postal Service.  Danny finished his work life driving a semi truck for Walmart.  Danny was an amazing man of God and was a member of the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. 

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth A. (Neff) Roese and daughter-in-law Stephanie Lynn Roese. Danny is survived by his children, Danny L. Roese (Emily Dickey) of South Bloomfield, Jarold “Chip” (Donna) Roese of Grove City, and Angel Roese (Richard Dean Johnson) of Columbus; brother Mike (Sonja) Roese; 7 grandchildren; Seth (Rachel) Roese; Theron (Misty) Roese; Kirstin (Bill) Sullivan; Matthew (Jordan) Roese; Chase Chaffin, Ashley and Caleb Stepp; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends including Cheryl Kuehn and Trace Croel.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6th with Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St. Ashville, OH 43103 with his brother Mike Roese officiating.  Military Honors Service will follow at Harrison Township Cemetery, South Bloomfield.
